The Eastman Wind Ensemble (EWE) celebrated its
50th Anniversary with a gala concert on February 8, 2002. Founded
by Frederick Fennell, the group gave its first performance on February
8, 1953. Through its ground breaking series of recordings for the
Mercury label the EWE reached a national and international audience
and has been in the forefront of the Wind Ensemble movement ever
since. IN celebration of 50 years of great music making the ensemble
has released a new 3 CD set of never before available recordings
on the Warner Brothers label.
Throughout the months of May and June, Drake's Village Brass Band
will take part in the celebration. We will feature classic recordings
under Fennell, some not available on CD. We will also feature many
recordings by the band's 3rd director, Dr. Donald Hunsberger, who
has lead the band since 1965! In additions, we will also feature
an interview with Dr. Hunsberger. So, tune in to Drake's Village
Brass Band for the months of May and June to hear great music by
this great ensemble, 50 years old this February - the Eastman Wind
Ensemble.
